The Roads Division is responsible for maintenance of 1010 roads with a total length of 730 miles. Because most of the county-maintained roads are two lanes, the Roads Division is actually responsible for maintaining about 1,460 lane miles of roads. Thanks to the progressive Floyd County paving/resurfacing program, only about six miles of our maintained roads are unpaved. During the past 14 years, we have resurfaced or paved an average of more than 46 miles of county roads annually. That figure does not include hundreds of smaller-scale, road-repair projects we do each year in response to requests made by citizens through our work order system.
Road Division personnel make up the grading crews and the asphalt finishing crew, which along with inmate labor from Floyd County Prison work to improve and maintain our roads at a quality level that rivals any comparable county in Georgia.
Grading Crews
Roadways are initially prepared for resurfacing by grading crews under the supervision of Project Supervisor DeWayne Weeks. These crews also have the responsibility for constructing parking lots at many government facilities, shoulder construction and maintenance and road patching operations.
Asphalt Finishing Crew
The asphalt finishing crew applies the asphalt layers to roads giving them a smooth riding surface. This operation is also under the direct supervision of Project Supervisor DeWayne Weeks
