Repair & Maintenance
Repair & Maintenance consists of three shops:
Main Shop
Preventive Maintenance Shop
Tire Shop
These shops maintain 446 pieces of equipment ranging from chain saws and lawn mowers to bulldozers and asphalt spreaders. Road service is provided by all shops.
The Main Shop
The Main Shop repairs and maintains heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, large trucks, generators, tractors/mowers, and paving equipment. This includes washing, welding and fabrication, and body shop repair including painting. With the assistance of three skilled mechanics and inmate labor from the Floyd County Prison, the services of this shop are always in high demand.
The Preventive Maintenance Shop
The Preventative Maintenance Shop repairs and maintains light equipment such as light trucks and automobiles, including servicing large trucks. This shop maintains the vehicles of the Police Department, Sheriff's Department, Prison, Health Department, Animal Control, Surveying, Water Department and various other department and office vehicles for the County, including Public Works vehicles. With the assistance of inmate labor from the Floyd County Prison, this is one of the busiest shops at Public Works.
The Tire Shop
The Tire Shop mounts and repairs tires for all county vehicles. This shop also repairs and maintains chainsaws.
