 Drainage Division

Floyd County has 1010 county-maintained roads with a total length of 740miles, with drainage ditches or gutters and rights of way on each side. The Drainage Division consists of several crews working together to maintain drainage, keep rights of way cut, clean and maintain storm drains and ditches, leaf and brush pick-up and cut back limbs and brush from rights of way.

Drainage

The goals of the division are to minimize or reduce the potential of flooding of roads and neighborhoods during periods of high water by maintenance of storm drainage, catch basins, driveway pipes, culverts and open channel ditches.

Rights-of-Way

The Drainage crews also are involved in cutting trees, limbs, brush and grass along the county’s rights-of-way to help ensure unobstructed lines of sight for motorists. They also join forces with other Public Works employees in responding to community needs during and following rain, wind, snow or ice storms.

Leaf and Brush Pick-Up

Floyd County provides leaf and brush pickup for its citizens. Vacuum machines are used for leaf pickup only during leaf season, October to March and only along streets with curb and gutter drainage systems. At all other times of year and along all other roads, leaves must be bagged for pickup. A work order for brush or leaf pickup should be requested through the Public Works office.
