Atlanta, Ga. – At its annual meeting held April 29, Floyd County Manager Kevin Poe was elected President of the Georgia Association of County Managers and Administrators (GACMA). Poe has served on the GACMA executive committee the past two years as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President. Due to his role as President of the GACMA, Poe was also elected by leaders of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) to serve on the 95-year-old association’s Board of Managers. Poe was sworn in as a member of the ACCG board in Savannah, at the group’s annual meeting.
As a member of the ACCG Board of Managers, Poe will play a vital role in developing key public policy goals of all 159 Georgia county governing authorities. He will work closely with the other 36 members of the board to guide the direction of the association’s policy agenda for 2009.
ACCG is recognized as a national leader in legislative advocacy on a wide range of county issues, especially reflecting the concerns of property taxpaying citizens. ACCG’s activities, on the state and federal levels, promote public policy goals to facilitate better county government, as well as better intergovernmental relations on behalf of all levels of government.
In addition to policy and legislative direction, ACCG conducts commissioners’ education and training programs, co-administered with the nationally recognized leader in public policy education, The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute. The association also operates comprehensive insurance and risk management programs for county governments statewide.
