 Important Emergency Management Resources

Local & State Resources

Local weather updates
CERT
Find Local Shelters

NOAA Weather Radio
Broadcasts of weather information - including warnings - can be heard 24 hours a day in practically every community in the state. In fact, some communities can hear weather broadcasts from more than one radio station. This can be advantageous. Or it can lead to problems. For this reason it is important to know enough about the broadcast system to make a choice of transmitter that will give you the most protection.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA)
A part of the Office of the Governor, The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and all GEMA employees are on 24-hour call to assist local authorities in responding to emergencies.

TIME Task Force
The Traffic Incident Management Enhance Task Force (TIME) was formed to address the critical issues related to incident management in the region. This task force is made up of concerned incident responders from transportation agencies and towing companies to fire, rescue, police, and emergency medical services.

Federal Resources

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
FEMA's mission within the Department of Homeland Security is to lead the effort to prepare the nation for all hazards and effectively manage federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident. FEMA also initiates proactive mitigation activities, trains first responders, and manages the National Flood Insurance Program and the U.S. Fire Administration.

National Incident Management Systems (NIMS)
Developed by the Secretary of Homeland Security at the request of the President, the National Incident Management System (NIMS) integrates effective practices in emergency preparedness and response into a comprehensive national framework for incident management.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the 13 major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is the principal agency in the United States government for protecting the health and safety of all Americans and for providing essential human services, especially for those people who are least able to help themselves.

Citizen Corps
Citizen Corps is an easy way for communities across America to engage every individual in preparing the homeland for any type of emergency or threat.

Ready.gov
Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling a supply kit and developing a family communications plan, are the same for both a natural or man-made emergency.

Disaster Help.gov
Disaster Help is a single Internet-based portal to serve the public’s requirement for assistance, and the government’s requirement to provide disaster information and services.

Environmental Protection Agency
Chemical emergency preparedness and prevention information for communities.

American Red Cross
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

American Humane Society

When disaster strikes a community, essential services like water are often unavailable. Learn what can you do to ensure your pet is cared for during and, especially after, a disaster.
