 Child Victim Advocate

The Victim Witness Assistance Program of the District Attorney’s Office, together with the Floyd County Juvenile Court, co-authored and received a Federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant through the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) and began a new Child Victim Advocacy Program in 1990. The program provides a continuum of supportive services to victims of child sexual and physical abuse. Hundreds of victims have been served through the Child Advocate Program.

Services Offered

  • Make early contact with child victim families to provide crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Prepare child for legal and social service experiences they will encounter
  • Assist with victim compensation and victim impact statements
  • Familiarize child with Court process
  • Accompany child to Court
  • Referral to appropriate area services, including counseling referrals
  • Library in the Advocate’s office – includes pamphlets, books and articles on sexual abuse for adults and children
  • Community awareness of the program
