Probate Court exercises jurisdiction in the probate of wills, the administration of estates, the appointment of guardians, and the involuntary hospitalization of incapacitated adults and other dependent individuals. This court also administers oaths of office and issues marriage licenses, gun permits and hears certain traffic cases.

Marriage License

Requirements for Marriage License are as follows:

  • Valid ID (Georgia Driver's License, Georgia State ID, Birth Certificate, Passport - Must contain full name and date of birth.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Final Divorce Decree (must have judge's signature and date he signed dissolving the last marriage).
  • Cost of license is $56.00 without counseling or $21 with Certification of Premarital Counseling.
  • Licenses are issued Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. You must pre present before 5:00 pm to complete paper work.

A marriage license does not have an expiration date. You will be asked to come back and pick up your marriage certificate.

Concealed Weapons Permit

To apply for a Concealed Weapons Permit:

  • Bring in current Floyd County Driver’s License (must have correct address).
  • Applications will be processed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday thru Friday. You must be present before 5:00 pm to complete paper work.
  • You must have $55.00 cash or money order only.  This is the fee required by the GBI to run your background check.
  • The receipt you are given for the $55.00 you will need to take to the jail along with $5.00 cash to pay for fingerprinting.The jail will print you Tuesday – Friday 8-11am and 1-4:30pm.

     You can call Probate Court back in 2 weeks to see if everything has been processed and your permit is ready to be picked up.

    The fee for the permit when you pick it up is $15.00.  We will accept cash, money order, or local check.  The permit is good for 5 years. 

    Every 5 years you will have to go through this process again as if you are a new applicant.  Call ahead to find out if there has been any changes to the process
