Probate Court exercises jurisdiction in the probate of wills, the administration of estates, the appointment of guardians, and the involuntary hospitalization of incapacitated adults and other dependent individuals. This court also administers oaths of office and issues marriage licenses, gun permits and hears certain traffic cases.

Marriage License

Requirements for Marriage License are as follows:

  • Valid ID (Georgia Driver's License, Georgia State ID, Birth Certificate, Passport - Must contain full name and date of birth.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Final Divorce Decree (must have judge's signature and date he signed dissolving the last marriage).
  • Cost of license is $56.00 without counseling or $21 with Certification of Premarital Counseling.
  • Know or bring Social Security numbers.
  • Licenses are issued Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:15pm.

Once you get your license to be married it is good forever and does not have an expiration date. You will be asked to come back and pick up your marriage certificate.

Concealed Weapons Permit

To apply for a Concealed Weapons Permit:

  • Applications are processed Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:15pm.
  • Applicant must be 21 years of age.
  • Applicant must be a resident of Floyd County.
  • Applicant must bring a valid Georgia Driver's license with a Floyd County address to apply.
  • Once the application is completed, the applicant is given two (2) fingerprint cards. These are to be taken to the Floyd County Jail for applicant to be fingerprinted.
  • Applicant is required to pay $26.00 in the form of a money order made payable to GBI at time of fingerprinting for the background check. A $5.00 cash payment to the Jail is also required at this time.
  • It takes between three (3) and five (5) months before background check information is mailed back to Floyd County.
  • Cost of the permit is $15.00 payable when applicant picks up the permit.
  • Permits are valid for five (5) years and then must be reapplied for. There are no renewals. After five years, you will go through the application process again.
