Local 11-year-old raises over $500 for Animal Shelter |
||||
For Immediate ReleaseDate: July 27, 2007 LOCAL GIRL raises over $500 in FUNDRAISER FOR FLOYD COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER Rome , Ga. - A local 11-year-old girl held a fundraiser for the Floyd County Animal Shelter Monday, July 16 in hopes of purchasing beds for the animals at the shelter. Her efforts helped raise over $500 for the shelter. Jennifer Lowery and some friends were at the East Rome WalMart from 4-7 p.m. collecting donations for the shelter. They also passed out flyers with information about the shelter at this time as well. “Jennifer has a soft spot for the animal shelter,” said Debbie Lowery, Jennifer’s mother. “Our dog Buddy came from there 7 years ago. Jennifer has had lemonade stands, and sold cookies to help raise money for the shelter. She feels sorry that the animals don’t have homes, and wants to do what she can to help.” “We are happy to accept these donations for the shelter,” said Scotty Hancock, Floyd County Animal Control Director. “We are very fortunate to have kids in the community who feel this strongly and are willing to hold fundraisers to help out a worthy cause. You won’t find many 11-year-olds willing to spend three hours of their vacation time collecting money for an animal shelter.” “I have a passion for animals,” said Jennifer. “I want to help them because they have to depend on us for help.” Jennifer was honored with a Proclamation from the Floyd County Commission in its July 24 th meeting. ###
