COUNTY MANAGER POE ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE GACMA

Atlanta, Ga. – At its annual meeting held April 29, Floyd County Manager Kevin Poe was elected President of the Georgia Association of County Managers and Administrators (GACMA). Poe has served on the GACMA executive committee the past two years as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice President. Due to his role as President of the GACMA, Poe was also elected by leaders of the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) to serve on the 95-year-old association’s Board of Managers. Poe was sworn in as a member of the ACCG board in Savannah, at the group’s annual meeting.

As a member of the ACCG Board of Managers, Poe will play a vital role in developing key public policy goals of all 159 Georgia county governing authorities. He will work closely with the other 36 members of the board to guide the direction of the association’s policy agenda for 2009.

ACCG is recognized as a national leader in legislative advocacy on a wide range of county issues, especially reflecting the concerns of property taxpaying citizens. ACCG’s activities, on the state and federal levels, promote public policy goals to facilitate better county government, as well as better intergovernmental relations on behalf of all levels of government.

In addition to policy and legislative direction, ACCG conducts commissioners’ education and training programs, co-administered with the nationally recognized leader in public policy education, The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute. The association also operates comprehensive insurance and risk management programs for county governments statewide.

STORM CULVERT WORK BEGINS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23 AT THE FORUM; PARKING WILL BE INTERRUPTED FOR NEXT 18 MONTHS

ROME, GA -   Parking will be disrupted at The Forum and surrounding downtown areas beginning Wednesday, April 23, 2008 due to the upcoming construction projects in the area. Visitors to the downtown area should expect traffic delays and parking space availability to be at a minimum during this time.

As a starting point of the project, a culvert will be replaced which runs across The Forum parking lot and ties into 3rd Avenue and Broad Street. That repair work will begin Wednesday and is scheduled to take 6-8 weeks. Once the storm culvert work is completed, construction will begin on The Forum parking deck – a 4 story, 380 space deck jointly funded by the City of Rome and Floyd County.

Floyd County Water Department Outdoor Water Usage Guidelines

The Floyd County Water Department is currently following the Level 4 drought guidelines set forth by Governor Sonny Perdue as shown below:

The use of water for any purposes other than those listed below is strictly prohibited.

  • Existing landscape may be watered by hand for a total of 25 minutes per day on an odd-even schedule between the hours of midnight and 10:00 a.m.  Even-numbered addresses may water on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday.  Odd-numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday.  Hand watering is defined as one person with one garden hose with a spray nozzle that shuts off when the handle is released.
  • Newly installed landscaping that has been in place less than 30 days may be watered up to 10 consecutive weeks (3 days per week between the hours of midnight and 10:00 a.m.), on an odd-even basis.  Each homeowner is responsible for registering and obtaining a permit from the Outdoor Water Use Registration Program (www.urbanagcouncil.com).  For additional information regarding the program, please contact the local UGA Cooperative Extension Office at 706-295-6210.
  • New and existing pools may be filled at this time.
The county will continue to monitor overall water usage.  The above guidelines may change based on continuing drought conditions and the mandated reduction of water use.  Therefore, please be diligent in observing the guidelines currently in place.
